How We Read and Train Your Brain

Neurofeedback is like a workout for your brain. It helps your brain learn to stay calm, focused, and balanced through subconscious training.

Everyone’s brain has rhythms, like a song. Sometimes, parts of that song get too slow or too fast, which can make you feel tired, stressed, distracted, or anxious.

When we look at your brain map, we can see which areas are off-beat. The goal of neurofeedback is to help those areas get back in rhythm, so your brain works in the best way it can.

At Brain Body Science, we train one or two small parts of your brain at a time. We place tiny sensors (called electrodes) on your scalp in the area we’re training (we usually go all around the head throughout the full course of training). These sensors listen to your brain’s electrical activity, but they never send electricity in!

Your brain cells (neurons) communicate using electrical waves. Some waves are slow, some are fast:

  • Delta – very slow, helps you sleep
  • Theta – dreamy and creative
  • Alpha – calm and relaxed
  • Beta – fast and focused

For example: If your brain has too much delta when you’re awake, you might feel foggy or sleepy. If it has too much beta, you might feel anxious or wired. Neurofeedback helps your brain find the right balance between the speeds.

When the sensors pick up your brain waves, they send that information to our computer. During training, you’ll watch a video, play a game, or do another activity in front of the screen.

Here’s the cool part:

  • When your brain waves move in the right direction, the screen gets brighter and the sound gets louder.
  • When they move in the wrong direction, the screen gets dimmer and quieter.

Your brain naturally wants the bright screen and clear sound. So, without you even realizing it, it starts changing its waves to earn that reward. That’s why we call it “neuro-feedback.”

You don’t have to try to make it happen. Just relax and let your brain do the learning.

Think of it like learning an instrument or a sport: it takes practice. Most people notice changes after about 10 sessions, and stronger, longer-lasting changes after 15–20.

Everyone’s brain is different, so sometimes it takes more or less time.

Our computer software shows us real-time data, including how your brain speeds are changing, how balanced they are, and how well the training is going. We track your progress each session so we can keep improving your plan.

Side effects of neurofeedback are rare and usually very mild. You might feel a little tired, get a temporary headache, or have unusual sleep for a night or two.
